ILFRACOMBE'S A crew coped with testing conditions to finish eighth at the Men's County Gig Championships.
North Devon was represented by four crews from Ilfracombe and two each from Barnstaple and Appledore in a total field of 84.
They were greeted in Newquay by 30-38mph wind and large swell.
Ilfracombe A were edged out in a neck-and-neck battle with Falmouth to finish second behind Looe in the quarter-finals.
That was enough to make Combe the only club from outside Cornwall to qualify...
