First time buyers in Devon who are dreaming of their first home will have to earn at least £51,000 within the next four years to have a hope of affording the average house.
According to Shelter, the average wage will have to more than double for buyers to take their first step on the property ladder.
The charity warned that rocketing house prices and stagnant wages will mean many would be "stuck renting" for years on end.
